The beaches of Southern Sicily
The south-east coast offers a multitude of beaches to enjoy and thanks to the geography of Sicily, the sun nearly always shines.
Going west you can reach the beautiful beach of Punta Secca with its famous gleaming white lighthouse. Further still you can find Punta Braccetto, with not only a stunning beach but a rocky ravine overlooking a nature reserve with seemingly endless golden sands. West still is the town of Pozzallo and its fresh fish markets. Heading east from Marina di Ragusa you find the town of Scicli and then Cava d' Aliga, both of which possess large and uncrowded beaches; not to mention that between these two towns are plenty of coves and inlets ready to be explored! Continuing past Cava d'Agliga just a few kilometres is the bay of Sampieri; the perfect place for a walk along the coast. Further east is the town of Pozzallo with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. From Pozzallo you can also travel to Malta for a day trip thanks to the hydrofoil service. The very tip of Sicily holds the towns of Porto Palo di Capo Passero and Marzamemi. Porto Palo di Capo Passero has two great beaches, one looking east the other west, and Marzamemi has hordes of fantastic restaurants, and is very close to the UNESCO nature reserve.
